Car Insurance - New mobile phone driving penalties come into effect on 27th February 2007
Thursday, 01 February 2007
From the 27th of February 2007, UK motorists face tougher penalties for breaking the law when using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving.
From this date, any driver caught breaking the law will have to pay an increased fine of £60 and will receive three penalty points on their licence. If the case goes to court, you could risk a maximum fine of £1,000, which rises to £2,500 for the driver of a bus, coach, or heavy goods vehicle. In addition to fines, penalty points on your licence could also increase your car insurance premiums.Research by the Transport Research Laboratory shows that drivers who use a mobile phone whilst driving have slower reaction times and stopping times than those under the influence of alcohol, and almost 74,000 fixed penalty notices were issued for illegal use of a mobile phone while driving in 2004 according to Home Office figures.
swiftcover.com is keen to raise the awareness amongst drivers to ensure they don't get caught out. For more information, visit Think Road Safety:
