Car Review: MG Rover - 25  Series 99 (2 stars)

Not recommended. An oversized supermini that is showing it's age. Now looking expensive and 1.1 engine is underpowered.

MG Rover has polarised its buyers by offering its smallest car as either a conventional hatchback or a hell-for-leather range of racers branded ZR. You will have little difficulty spotting the difference, as the ZR is bedecked in spoilers and side skirts. Both models need updating and suffer from similar problems: a poor interior and lack of space. Furthermore, some engines, such as the 1.1i in the 25 line-up, are woefully underpowered. There are plenty of better cars around, but the 25 does have one advantage for some UK buyers: a British flag on the boot.
