Citroen - Nemo Multispace
Series
(3 stars)
Styling
(3 stars)
The Nemo's 'trout pout' and van-like features don't make it the best-looking MPV around, but it's clearly been designed for practicality rather than as a fashion statement.
Handling
(3 stars)
The Nemo Multispace is essentially a van, so don't expect hot hatch-like handling. Despite hints of body roll, and a tendency to run a wide when pushed hard on a tighter bend, it remains surprisingly composed. Precise and well-weighted steering also makes for easy manoeuvring around town.
Comfort
(3 stars)
The Nemo Multispace has a spacious interior, highlighted by the large windows, which provide plenty of light to the cabin. However, the ride does get choppy on poorly surfaced roads, while there's a good deal of road and wind noise above 60mph.
Quality
(4 stars)
The Nemo's build quality is good, feeling very solid and robust. The majority of interior materials are made from hard plastic, but this comes across as a practical feature rather than a cost-saving one. Importantly, there are no sharp or untidy edges around the cabin and the exterior fit and finish is decent. Citroen's reliability has improved in recent years and there's nothing to suggest the Nemo will prove otherwise.
Performance
(2 stars)
With only two engines on offer, the Nemo's performance is limited. Both the 1.4 petrol and 1.4 diesel struggle and their 0-62mph times - 16.2 and 18.2 seconds, respectively - reflect this.
Roominess
(3 stars)
The Nemo's van-like dimensions mean that there's excellent headroom, while there's enough room to seat two six-foot adults in the rear over shorter distances. With the rear seats in place, the boot is quite compact: however, loadspace can be increased to a massive 2,500 litres, thanks to rear seats that fold down, tip forwards and can be removed completely.
Costs
(3 stars)
The most frugal of engines is the diesel, which returns 62.3mpg. It also boasts low CO2 emissions of just 119g/km, putting it in road tax band B and costing just £35 a year. The petrol is a little thirstier at 42.2mpg, while CO2 emissions of 165g/km are much higher, costing an ouch-inducing £175 a year in road tax.
Value
(3 stars)
Equipment levels are a little sparse: standard kit includes electric windows, 12-volt socket, multifunction trip computer, 'guide me home' headlights, tinted windows and a torch in the boot. However, the Nemo Multispace is priced accordingly, undercutting the larger Citroen Berlingo by some margin.
Stereo
(2 stars)
The stereo is about as basic as you'll get in a modern car these days but it is easy to use and although the sound quality can be a little tinny, there are a range of audio options you can play around with until you find a setting to suit. Sat nav isn't offered.
