Lexus - ISĀ

(3 stars)
Styling
(4 stars)
Strong visuals give the Lexus far more road-presence than its slightly bland looking predecessor. F-Sport package sharpens up the looks that bit more.
Handling
(3 stars)
Keen reactions and plenty of grip, but the crashy ride tends to limit pace on bumpy backroads.
Comfort
(4 stars)
On smooth roads nothing else in the segment comes close to the IS's almost uncanny level of refinement. F-Sport package compromises that slightly, but not enough to discount it.
Quality
(4 stars)
We don't like the 1980s-looking digital displays on the dashboard, but there's no arguing with the Lexus's impressively well-constructed feel. It's a real quality item.
Performance
(4 stars)
The straight-six engine in the IS250 pulls strongly and works well with the optional six-speed auto box. Diesel IS220d is powerful and economical, but for real high performance, try the V8-powered IS-F.
Roominess
(3 stars)
Reasonable driving position adjustment, although a cramped footwell can create discomfort in longer journeys. Rear seat space and boot accommodation is relatively tight.
Costs
(3 stars)
Short 10,000 mile service intervals will make for plenty of trips to the dealer for average owners. Fuel economy is reasonable and insurance is competitive - as long you avoid the IS-F.
Value
(4 stars)
Good standard equipment makes the IS look like conspicuously good value against stripped-out German rivals.
Stereo
(4 stars)
The stereo gives a solid, crisp sound. Satnav works well, but very expensive as an option.
