Car Statistics: Nissan - Micra  Series 93 (4 stars)

Styling (4 stars)

Maybe a bit girly, but at least the Micra has plenty of visual identity, helping it to stand out of a segment of dull boxes.

Handling (4 stars)

Grip levels are low - but the Micra is good fun to drive over a twisty road thanks to its reactive chassis and safe, predictable limits. Stable at speed, too.

Comfort (3 stars)

The firm ride becomes a bit bouncy on rougher roads, while wind and road noise are intrusive at cruising speeds.

Quality (4 stars)

Very well built - it feels like a real quality item.

Performance (3 stars)

The basic 1.2 litre petrol motor has a reasonable amount of urge - we can't see much of a point for the bigger petrol motors. Diesel is very frugal and impressively brisk.

Roominess (3 stars)

Space is tight in the back for bigger occupants and the boot is small for a car in this segment.

Costs (4 stars)

Very cheap to keep on the road thanks to good fuel economy, cheap insurance and good value servicing. Depreciation is quite steep, though - the Micra sheds value quickly.

Value (3 stars)

Standard equipment is good, although the most basic versions do without aircon, but the Micra looks expensive compared to some rivals, especially considering its relative lack of room.

Stereo (3 stars)

Decent quality audio system by segment standards, although it struggles to make itself heard at higher speeds. Satnav is good value for an original equipment system, too.
