Car Statistics: Perodua - Myvi  Series 06 (3 stars)

Styling (3 stars)

Easily the best looking Perodua to date and the simple boxy design with tall sides manages to look smart and modern without being Lego-like.

Handling (2 stars)

Not one for keen drivers as there's not much in the way of grip, steering feel or composure. Definitely at its best in town.

Comfort (3 stars)

Body lean is kept in check and the suspension does a decent job around town, though faster, bumpy roads can soon fox the Myvi into some jerkiness. Too much wind, road and engine noise can be heard on the motorway.

Quality (3 stars)

Some of the plastics don't look too inspiring but the Myvi appears well put together and shares almost all of its components with tried and trusted models from Daihatsu and Subaru.

Performance (3 stars)

Stick to the manual gearbox-equipped SXi and you'll find the Myvi reasonably responsive and nippy in town, though it struggles a little in faster traffic conditions. Avoid the automatic EZi unless you really need a self-shifter.

Roominess (4 stars)

Tall sides and roof coupled to upright seating means the Myvi is surprising spacious and accommodating inside. It will carry four adults with ease, though the boot is only small.

Costs (3 stars)

Cheap insurance, servicing and repair costs are in the Myvi's favour, but its economy and emissions are only average for a class where 60+ miles to the gallon and sub-120g/km are rapidly becoming the norm.

Value (3 stars)

The Myvi is packed with plenty of standard equipment and the list price is not too steep. However, residual values are not likely to bear up as well as some rivals' and it's disappointing Perodua only supplies a 36,000-mile warranty.

Stereo (2 stars)

You won't be shaking the foundations of many buildings with the Perodua's standard CD stereo set-up. It struggles to overcome the racket of the engine and road noise at higher speeds. No satellite navigation is offered.
