Car Statistics: Vauxhall - Vectra  Series 95 (3 stars)

Styling (3 stars)

Bland design has been enlivened by recent facelift, but it's still not likely to attract a second glance.

Handling (3 stars)

The Vectra can only muster modest enthusiasm for corners but it remains predictable at the limit and holds the road well at speed.

Comfort (4 stars)

The well finished cabin, excellent noise insulation and compliant suspension settings mean the Vectra is a brilliant motorway companion.

Quality (3 stars)

The Vectra is well assembled, although the cabin feels a bit plasticky and unimaginatively designed next to some class rivals.

Performance (4 stars)

Even the most basic engines muster decent urge - and at the top of the range the Vectra is seriously quick.

Roominess (4 stars)

Front and rear seat occupants enjoy plenty of space and boot capacity is generous in the hatchback, and enormous in the estate.

Costs (3 stars)

Long service intervals, low insurance groups (on the more basic versions) and good fuel economy help the Vectra deliver impressive cost-per-mile. The problem for private buyers comes from massive depreciation, the Vectra's value plunging like a lemming from a high cliff.

Value (3 stars)

Competitive equipment levels ensure even the most basic versions come with air conditioning and a CD-playing stereo system - but the Vectra only looks attractive to private buyers when accompanied by a substantial discount.

Stereo (3 stars)

Decent system as standard with upgrades available. Optional satnav is a way off class leaders when it comes to ease-of-operation.
