Motor insurance: Speeders 'hand over more than £1m'

Those caught travelling above the speed limit in the Bracknell area have handed over £1 million in fines, it has been revealed, news that motor insurance consumers may want to be aware of.

According to the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership (TVSRP), half of the people snapped by cameras between 2003 and 2008 decided to go on awareness courses but the fees still topped this figure, reports Get Bracknell.

In total, 33,663 motorists broke the law and gave £1,009,890 altogether in money, the partnership noted, as 50,000 penalty points were dished out.

Spokesman for the TVSRP Dan Campsall remarked that speeding instances have actually decreased in comparison to other times.

"The number of offences has fluctuated a bit over recent years but despite increases in enforcement over that period the most recent data shows a significant drop in the number of offences," he told the publication.

In related news, 36-year-old policewoman Jacqueline Edwards was last week given a 50-day driving ban after breaking the speed limit in the Llanfairfechan area of Wales.
