Car insurance: New speed cameras for Bristol roads

New technology is due to be implemented on two accident-prone roads in the Bristol area, something that may have a negative impact on people's car insuranceif they are caught.

Fresh speed cameras and signs that can warn speeding drivers to watch the dial are set to be put in place by the city council under the remit of Watchman Safety Schemes, reports the Bristol Evening Post.

Under the initiative, fines are not to be handed out to rogue drivers immediately, but those caught on camera may be prosecuted by the police force.

Other signs would let motorists know when they are approaching the new measures, on Long Cross in Lawrence Weston and Clifton's Whiteladies Road.

Such measures could be being taken due to a number of accidents witnessed in both of the areas over recent times.

Locals Julie and Norman Wilcox have said that a similar scheme in Brislington has worked.

"We've had no accidents since [it was introduced]. Things are better now," Mr Wilcox told the paper.

This week, it was revealed that student snapped travelling high above the limit in the north-east got a two-month ban.
