Motor insurance: Drink-drive limit breached by drivers in Northamptonshire
Dozens of drivers in Northamptonshire have been risking a sharp rise in the car insurance premiums by getting behind the wheel with illegal levels of alcohol in their bloodstreams.
A crackdown was initiated by the local police force recently and almost one in four of the people pulled over and tested were found to have drunk to much alcohol to be on the roads, the Northampton Chronicle & Echo reports.
The initiative was dubbed Operation Roadsafe and resulted in the arrest of 97 individuals fro the offence of drink driving, which could see them hit with a costly hike in their car insurance.
Casualty Reduction Partnership released the figures from the scheme and one in four of the drink-drivers caught were aged between 17 and 24.
"A drink drive conviction sticks with you and has the potential to ruin your life," warned local police officer Steve Harris.
"If you are convicted you will not only have a criminal record, you could also be fined up to £5,000, be imprisoned, lose your licence and lose your job."
In related news, Hertfordshire Police recently revealed that it caught dozens of local drivers performing an array of unsafe tasks while behind the wheel of their cars, including one person who chose the wrong time and place to play their harmonica.
