A number of new road safety tips are set to be given out to drivers in Wellington next month as part of a scheme that has
been developed by the Somerset Road Safety Partnership.
The main aim of the initiative is to try and lower the number
of accidents seen on the A38 road in the county, reports the Somerset County Gazette.
On May 12th, motorists will
be offered awareness hints in the daytime at Sampford Arundel's Parish Room.
Then later on, a simulator will be rolled
out so that attendees can analyse their driving skills and see how sharp they really are.
Road safety co-ordinator
with the partnership, Rina Cameron, told the paper that knowledge forms the basis of improvement.
"Ninety per
cent of crashes are the result of driver error. For this reason driver education has to be a major element in the campaign
to reduce high casualty rates on the A38," she commented.
A similar road scheme was recently put on for younger
people in Inverness by the Northern Safety Camera Partnership.
Those involved in accidents may find that their car insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
