Travel insurance: 'Flexibility' provided by ferries

Ferry travel is a viable option for tourists because it affords them a degree of flexibility, Port of Dover has said this week.

Because ferry travellers usually take their car with them, they have an element of "freedom" and are already close to their possessions, a spokesman at the firm noted.

Moreover, many options are available at places such as Dover, with a choice of destinations, stated public relations manager at the organisation Keith Southey.

He commented: "The advantage of Dover is that you have services 24 hours a day, seven days a week and it is the shortest ferry crossing to mainland Europe, with crossing times from 55 minutes".

Ferries travel from the port to Calais, Boulogne and Dunkirk, he added, while tourists can turn up at any time and purchase a ticket.

Recent Port of Dover figures have stated that there was a seven per cent rise in the amount of motorists who passed through there in 2007.

Travellers should ensure that they have an adequate travel insurance plan in place before making journeys.
