Mobile speed camera operators in the Derbyshire area have been accused of hiding one of the devices in a commercial vehicle.
Drivers
have suggested that a mundane builder's van parked in the county is in fact concealing the speed camera, something that may
impact on people's car insurance premiums.
Internet
users on Pistonheads suggested that the operation - if proved true - could be breaking the law, reports the Burton Mail.
The
website of the Derbyshire Safety Camera Team claimed that areas with cameras are usually announced.
"We actively
announce the locations of our safety cameras in the hope that motorists will slow down voluntarily," it said.
But
Alex Lawrence from Pistonheads suggested that the devices are "ineffective" and stated that the purpose of cameras
is to generate cash.
This week, one motorist in Essex, Hamish Birchall, said that a camera installed on the M11 had
witnessed a great number of incidents since it was introduced seven years ago.
