Travel insurance: Holidaymakers can camp in 'luxury'

People are not simply choosing camping because it is a cheap option and there are ways of camping in 'luxury', an expert claims, which could be of interest to those looking for a travel insurance deal.

The editor of the Cool Camping series of guidebooks, Jonathan Knight, suggests that a growing number of travel insurance customers are opting for a bit of luxury in their camping holiday.

Recent figures from Travelmole.co.uk indicate that Canvas Holidays has witnessed a ten to 20 per cent increase in bookings in the six weeks prior to the June 11th and Barclays bank estimates that Britons now spend over £1 billion each year on camping and caravanning.

According to Mr Knight: "You can spend a lot of money on these luxury boutique campsites, - there's a place called 'Feather down farms' these are luxury farm camping [sites], canvas homes almost, they cost £600 a week in the summer -so they are not necessarily a low cost option."

Mr Knight also suggests that, with the credit crunch affecting many Britons, camping is also a good option for those seeking a budget break.

Hitwise data indicates that online searches for camping holidays trebled in May this year, compared with the start of 2008, while a report from the Camping and Caravanning Club shows that tent camping is more popular than ever, with seven per cent of the UK population now active campers.
