Car insurance: Qashqai production announced for Sunderland

Car insurance customers looking to pick up a vehicle produced in the UK could be interested in the Qashqai+2, which Nissan has stated is to be developed in Sunderland.

According to the Japanese automobile manufacturer, the vehicle is the fifth new model in five years to be made at the Tyne and Wear plant.

It added that staff numbers has been increased by 850 new posts created over the course of June in order to meet demand.

Trevor Mann, Nissan senior vice president for manufacturing in Europe, commented that the firm is hoping to build on the "unprecedented" success of the original Qashqai.

He remarked: "This level of volume will contribute to another record production year at our Sunderland plant with an estimated 450,000 vehicles coming off the line."

The initial Qashqai was produced at three sites in Sunderland, Washington and Fukuoka, Japan.
