Motor insurance: Overseas festivals 'more popular'

30/06/2008

People travelling to music festivals abroad transform their trips into a full-scale holiday, it has been suggested, news that may concern those looking for travel insurance.

More holidaymakers are opting to look at overseas festivals, said the editor of Virtual Festivals Ross Purdie, because the UK weather has proven to be a deterrent.

Furthermore, he noted, music events abroad are on average cheaper and many fans have already been to the major options in the UK.

Dependent on how much time can be taken off work, he added, groups of friends may wish to enliven the entire experience.

He commented: "If you're going further afield or going with a load of mates then you may want to turn it into a holiday and make it part of a wider experience."

Ticket sales for the Glastonbury Festival did not sell out well in advance of the event this year, with critics having claimed poor weather in recent years has driven people away.

Last weekend's festival passes did however completely go on Thursday night, in the run-up to performances by Amy Winehouse and Jay-Z.
