Car insurance: Politician calls for 'engagement'

The transport minister in Scotland Stewart Stevenson has claimed that the only way to improve the safety of the roads is to involve the public more.

Deaths can be cut if a number of bodies are included in road safety strategies, Mr Stevenson argued, as the Scottish government looks to devise new plans, reports the BBC.

He stated that the correct morals and codes of conduct should be taught to all drivers if the situation seen on the roads is to change in the future.

"We must look at new ways of getting road safety messages across to drivers of all ages if we are to stop more families suffering the tragedy of a loved one being lost," he commented.

Mr Stevenson added that "engagement" is the crucial way in which such trends could occur, from police staff to young drivers.

Motorists caught behaving erratically could find that their car insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.

The politician was born in 1946 and studied for a master's degree in mathematics.
