Motor insurance: Sheffield couple lose speeding appeal

A couple from Sheffield will have to pay a large £15,000 legal fee after an appeal against a speeding fine was turned down, something that may interest those with motor insurance.

Dr Iain Feilden and his partner Vikki will now have six months to hand over the money following the decision at Bradford Crown Court, reports the Sheffield Telegraph.

The man had claimed that the speed camera that was used to capture his wife may not have been reliable as it was placed on a bend.

But the law stipulates that manufacturer's guidelines do not have to be adhered to, despite the judge agreeing that these were dismissed when the device was erected.

Ms Feilden said that she is pleased with her husband even though the ruling was not in their favour.

She asserted: "I am very proud of Iain. Most people would not have survived the courtroom experience without training but he remained calm and professional."

A campaign was recently instigated in the Durham area to stop speeding drivers because of a local festival, but one motorist was still caught travelling at 124 mph.
