Car insurance: Refunds may be possible
A high number of drivers may be entitled to refunds after one man complained against a speeding fine.
Simon Grills, 40, claimed that he could not see a speed limit sign placed on the M11 because the lights on it were not working properly, reports the Daily Mirror.
Now another 214,000 motorists may be able to recoup similar fines on the stretch of road after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) agreed to discontinue legal proceedings against Mr Grills.
Richard Bentley, a road signs expert who aided the driver in his plight, told the publication that anyone driving at night on the road should not face the penalty.
"It's outrageous how the CPS dropped their challenge yet there are still people being prosecuted for the same offence. The lights weren't working, so no one driving at night should be charged," he said.
Mr Grills himself stated that he has spent more than "300 hours" devoting his time to try and fight the speeding charge.
A report last week from IAM Motoring Trust found that more drivers are beginning to accept the presence of speed cameras.
Drivers caught speeding may find that their car insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
