Drivers caught speeding in Norfolk are to be offered an alternative to licence points as part of a new initiative.
Up
until now, only motorists snapped just above 30mph have been offered road education lessons instead of a fine, but now those
offending at higher speeds can be included, reports the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press.
The Norfolk Safety Camera Partnership
is helping to put on the scheme and manager John Fairey explained that the method is a "sensible" one that can ensure
drivers improve awareness.
He told the paper: "We have always said that speed cameras are not just there to
catch people out and make money. They are there to reduce casualties and make our roads safer."
But those caught
will still be able to choose whether they would like to see a fine and licence points instead, Mr Fairey stated.
This
week it was claimed that a van with a mobile speed camera inside parked in Ashton-in-Makerfield was operating illegally.
Those
captured by speed cameras may find that their car insurance
premiums are negatively impacted upon.
