A high percentage of drivers are choosing to get away from normal life on Sundays by going on fairly long trips, a report
from Confused.com has said.
In total, 62 per cent of those polled by the firm stated that they drive twenty miles
or less on this day, while people in cities are likely to drive away from these large urban areas.
Belfast drivers
are keen to escape the city, as 85 per cent suggested that they go on Sunday journeys, while 69 per cent from Sheffield look
to do the same, Confused.com noted.
Managing director at the organisation Debra Williams said that UK motorists love
to feel free on the roads.
"Although hitting the roads on Sundays is probably more indicative of going to Aunt
Betty's for tea than of glamorous 1940s Hollywood-style country drives, it cannot be denied that the UK's love affair with
the car continues unabated," she commented.
She added that in a bid to keep car insurance premiums healthy, drivers should plan their Sunday journeys in advance and stay vigilant.
Research
carried out by the Institute of Advanced Motoring Trust last year found that Welsh roads are more dangerous on Sundays than
they are on Mondays.
