Car insurance: Speed awareness signs launched in Wiltshire

Car insurance policyholders in Wiltshire have been warned officials in the area are getting tough on speeders.

The North Wiltshire District Council has introduced two speed-activated warning signs that can be moved around different speeding blackspots to make drivers more aware of local limits, reports the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.

They work by flashing vehicle speeds in red LED lights if they are exceeding the legal requirements for the area.

Councillor Bob Causer tells the newspaper: "This is a great way of reminding motorists to stick to the speed limit and slow down. Villages like Christian Malford, the first place where the signs have been used, suffer from speeding cars, vans and lorries and this is a real safety issue for local residents."

The signs have been donated to the Wiltshire Safety Camera Partnership and will be rotated between roads causing most concern among residents.

In related news, a new campaign to cut speeding in Wotton-under-Edge has been launched by residents to protect pedestrians where there is no pavement, the Gloucestershire Gazette reports.
