Motor insurance: 'More cameras' for Yorkshire

25/04/2008

Highways organisations in one area of Yorkshire are planning to introduce more speed cameras in the near future.

Fixed devices may be about to see light of day in Selby after alterations being considered by both York Road Safety Partnership and 95 Alive North Yorkshire, one MP said, as reported by the Selby Times.

John Grogan, who represents Selby, revealed that a review was being undertaken of the district and that he thinks cameras could prevent incidents.

He told the paper: "I would welcome them in the right places and where they could have an impact on reducing accidents on our roads."

Mr Grogan made the comments while appearing at a recent council meeting that attempted to raise issues of scrutiny.

It was recently claimed by locals in Derbyshire that an apparently innocuous butcher's van spotted in the area is actually concealing a police speed camera. Pistonheads website members suggested that this could be deemed illegal.

Those caught speeding may find that their motor insurance premiums are negatively impacted upon.
